2005 Me at UNITEN

2005 Wui Jern at UNITEN.

the journey from KLIA to uniten, is very kan chiong. im stepping into uni and gonna live on my own independently.

i enjoyed foundation year in 2005 extremely much. my roomate sheng loong, housemate are chia hui and max wong from sibu. very homesick, leaving home unwillingly. i brought all my CDs to keep me accompanied, with all the songs i collected during secondary school.

the first night was 'lonely', not the kind of loneliness because no one is around. it's the kind of loneliness when family is not around. haha. i used to sleep with my brother but now turn and see, it's sheng loong. so weird right! fine. first few nights i sleep with earphone on ears, playing songs till the next morning. at least it made me feel at home in kuching. hmmm.

one month later, i was 'introduced' to uniten badminton arena. thanks to lucas bringing me to MPH for badminton. later i knew new friend, Jason from kuching as well. i wondered. he knew me but i did not. so i asked him 'how you know me?'. he said 'Are you same geng with Joseph Kho, the Global Sport taukeh at kenyalang?'. i said 'im not same geng with him but i know him, i geng with his student Yew Zion'. it's something cool that people whom i dont know, knows my background. haha. 3 months later i was brought into Uniten Badmiton Club after beating the seniors to enter final of Dean's Trophy (piala Dekan).

* can you see the rubber court in the pic? it cost 15k per piece. we got 3 pieces but the uni is too kiam siap, keeping in the store till today. this pic is the last time that we used the rubber courts.

academically was good in 2005. still keeping the spirit of kamikaze (sacrifice for books). table still full of books. even a small cup got no place on my table. never missed classes. never missed a words from lecturers. met up lecturers for discussion. worry about quizzes, tests and exams. finished assignments early. did tutorials. flip books for solution. called friends for help.

can you survive rm3 for a day? yes i could. i survived that. my lunch at foodcourt cost only rm1.50 because i took a vege and a piece of fried egg with rice only. that's all. RM1.50, my lunch! i did not want to take meat because one piece of meat like drumstick cost rm1.50 and it's expensive. and my dinner cost rm1.50 too! it's nasi lemak. yeah. i kept that for weeks. the best low-cost student at uni i guess, unluckily it was taken over by airasa a year after that.

it was my cooking year. we used to cook with rice cooker. whatever we can cook, we cook because we dont have stove. food, soup, i forgot what we cooked but i remember one thing. No one wanna eat my porridge, fine!

the first Christmas countdown at sg wang was so heboh. 15 of us booked a room in the middle of the city. that was 24 Dec 2005. the very eve of 25 Dec 2005. i learnt to spray people with innocent look. i learnt to laugh at people being sprayed. i learn to shout from 5 to 1. i learnt the mamak life after 12am. and i made myself a stupid promise to come again the following year.

it was 2005 year that i went on relationship. u asked me where is Asia Cafe, i can tell you clean and clear. you ask me how to go to Subang Jaya, i can tell you. you ask me how much taxi fare Subang Jaya-UNITEN, i can tell you. you ask me where Pangsapuri Subang, i can direct you. what else you wanna know? that's when i saw Taylor's College with my bare eyes. wow. the place is so happening and i asked myself, 'why im not here but uniten?'

i started to fall in love with KLIA. i took KLIA Transit to KLIA couple times from putrajaya to meet my mum. the train is just smooth and fast. most important it's quiet because very few people in the train. i stayed overnight at KLIA for the next morning early flight home. Eden restaurant is my favourite place to go Wi-Fi because it's next to McD and near to International Departure gate. seeing people hugging in tears leaving each other, 'this person must be going very far' i said to myself.

that's why i enjoyed my foundation year in 2005. if i were given the chance to go back to 2005, i will choose to.
