what's this

im a mechanical engineering student and yet i dont look like. mechanical? what's mechanical?

last week when we had our CAD lab. (machine design lab). this tutor ler, very diu but i like him, during the lab, keep asking us questions and making explanations. erm, last week, we did Gearbox lab. ran the experiment.

basic question from him. "what's gearbox?"

i answered "Got gearbox, can shift gear then car can move lor." i stared at my friend, he also nga nga stared back at me.

3 of us gave so lame explanations to him.

"Gearbox is to generate torque in the engine. just to put in simple words." he said.

wahlao... TORQUE, want explain so chim bo? actually his statement is understood already. but we could not give him the exact explanation.

then he asked us again, "When u read the car cataloque before buying a car, it stated there maximum torque, what does it mean?"

"Erm, maximum torque relates to the rev in the engine, high torque means rev a lot lor, then the car powerful lor." so lame sial the way we answered.

"Actually, when can we achieve maximum torque? only the gear 1 in our car, can give us the maximum torque, whenever u initiate ur car with gear 1 with the most powerful as it can, that's the power of ur car. U cant achieve maximum torque with gear 2, gear 3. Gear 2, 3 and so on, the torque tends to maintain constant. When we plot graph of torque, we can see."

sometimes i feel ashamed, being mechanical student dont know much about this basic knowledge. i dont know, just seldom explore the idea of this because not so interested in car lar honestly.

so give me a chance lar, to study anything about the car engine from now. (eventhough nt interested also have to face it) im trying to love car, bagi chance lar bang! if i still cant love it also dont blame me. everywhere i see, mechanical student do thing related to car only. although i know mechanical is wide but why always get related to car, is car the simplest mechanism to understand mechanical?
